PACE in CA: HERO PACE program helps homeowners with water and energy savings

The cities of Fairfield, Suisun City and Rio Vista have approved a program to help homeowners conserve water and energy.

The HERO Property Assessed Clean Energy Program is a new form of financing provided to help residents install water-saving technologies, solar, HVAC, energy-saving windows and more. HERO enables homeowners and commercial property owners to make water- and energy-efficiency improvements and pay them off through their property tax bill.

Property owners repay the assessment in five, 10, 15 or 20 years. Interest is tax deductible, and homeowners see immediate savings on electric and water utility bills.

Fairfield, Suisun City and Rio Vista joined five other communities in Solano County in adopting the HERO Program.

Benicia, Dixon, Vacaville and Vallejo, as well as the unincorporated areas of the county, all launched the program in the last 12 months and have funded more than $4 million in efficiency upgrades so far. Fairfield, Suisun City and Rio Vista residents may begin submitting applications for HERO financing this summer. Read more.
