PALM DESERT — The City Council voted 4-1 Thursday to join a regional version of the energy loan program originated in the city nearly five years ago.
The Coachella Valley Association of Governments is in the process of forming a new district across its territory which would allow homeowners to tack loan payments for solar or other renewable energy systems onto their property tax bills, passing the payments on to the next buyer if the house is sold.
Palm Desert’s Energy Independence Program was started in 2008, and CVAG is calling theirs a PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) Program, as representatives have been getting city councils to opt in. Read full story.
